Mind and Movies

Lage raho Munna Bhai

I must say, I was terribly impressed with not just the movie's humour/entertainment but also the very concept.
The practice what he calls Gandhigiri (Satyagraha, non-violence, and truth) to help ordinary people solve their problems.
He emphasises the need for tolerance, restraint and self-sacrifice in comical but convincing ways.
That's the way to make movies because it not just made all viewers laugh and enjoy but also conveyed good principles of life.
Imagine what if the same Gandhian principles were conveyed through a documentary, not many people would have borrowed the idea nor movie would have
been hit. People go to movies for entertainment, fun, to forget their worries, to pass the time, so they don't like to spend money on a informational or
spiritual documentary. Hats off to the Director !!

3 Idiots
Rancho's passion is for knowledge and taking apart and building machines rather than the conventional obsession of the other students such as reading books and scoring better exam ranks.

I do not completely agree with this idea. Though practical knowledge is essential but all the practicals are meaningless unless it is backed by fool proof theory. After all, goal or aim of any engineer is not to understand how to build a machine which is already being used in the market for many years rather he must be in position to improvize that machine or find any other better ways of solving the problems.

Engineering helps one build a strong foundation to innovate or make things better. Its a study of all existing principles, techniques, processes which have been researched, experimented and finetuned over many years by experts in the field. So one needs engineering to understand how things work and principles used behind making things work.
There is no point in re-inventing a wheel. It has already been proven that wheel in circular shape is the only best solution for locomotion.
What society needs is how to improvise this wheel to make transportation faster, safer and pleasureful. Recent tyre innovations such as adding spikes or perforations on the tyres to reduce the friction, or tubeless tyre for reliability are just examples of such engineering works.

Another important message of the movie is, one should always pursue a field where his interests lie in his life. I agree with this, however it is also
important to learn to be flexible in life.

At an age of 16 or 17 when a student completes his school, he/she won't be matured enough to know what his real interests are, what are his strengths and weaknesses, his real passion or hunger towards his dreams. Every kid wants to become Sachin Tendulkar or Lata mageshkar or Michael Schumacher but do they have enough will power to struggle or go through the hardship what Sachin or Lata did to reach that position today. Indian cricket team has open positions for only 11 players and the selection is not only through survival of Fittest theory, as everyone must have realized by IPL scandal and controversies around it. Is one financially ready to face the reality. In the worst case, if one ends up not being the best of the best, in such a case, can the profession earn enough to lead a decent livelihood in today's context.

It is also quite right that, fear is the biggest hurdle for success and success doesn't come without taking risks. But what is cost of the risk ?
It shouldn't cost as big as ones career or life. One should evaluate the pros and cons and then carefully attempt calculated risk.
I believe, one should be flexible in today world. It is not difficult or impossible to pursue other interests while pursuing some other field.
For example: Kumble, Srinath, Shankar Mahadevan are all Engineers who pursued their interests along with engineering and today successful in the field of their passion. Love is something which doesn't come by birth. One can always develop interests and desires towards any other fields. It's all in the mind, and if one learns to conquer his/her mind, he can conquer his destiny as well.

The movie can have profound impact on the minds of people. For example, After Lage Raho Munna Bhai's release, there were many silent, peaceful protests done around the world.
Over a three day period, hundreds of flower bouquets were sent to the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services office by Indians who were legally in the U.S. but caught in a green card backlog. Farmers staged a protest with flowers in the Vidarbha region and people who organised a protest in Lucknow claimed to have been inspired by Lage Raho Munna Bhai to use roses to convey their message.
Similarly, 3 Idiots can also have impact on the minds of students and childrens. Our movie directors need to be very cautious when they are imposing their own agenda on the people through their movies.
